This five-part docu-series goes inside the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC), a unique Philippine jail where dancing is part of the inmates’ exercise and rehabilitation. CPDRC shot to worldwide fame when its 2007 performance of “Thriller” went viral, but ten years later it faces intense scrutiny when an ex-convict is hired to run it. Happy Jail is directed by Emmy Award winner Michele Josue (Matt Shepard Is a Friend of Mine).

I have watched all the episodes. Sometimes we have to borrow the shoes of others to know what it feels like.
Mr. Moral did a great job, i think he won't just waste a second chance that was given to him to be trusted and even himself help the inmates rebuild HOPE, UNLIKE mrs. Garcia and her x-warden that according to the inmates are full of lies and promises..
Sometimes we need a wild lion to rule over the forest..

A poignant documentary. Just finished the series in one go. I honestly had no idea what to expect, but my expectations were blown away. Thankful for the filmmaker and her team who chose to shed light on the stories of the inmates at CPDRC. The ending broke my heart. I pray for healing, direction, and peace for everyone.

Raw and true down to its core! The story told was from within and not from the media. Great work by Michele Josue and her crew together with Netflix!! Paco next!

I don’t find it funny when you wake up a homeless man and pretend to arrest him just to get info. You are all corrupt. The homeless man was innocent and if you wanted an informant then you should have approached it differently. You took his pic and basically bullied him. The poor guy didn’t even know how to use a cell phone! You should be ashamed and be in jail all of you losers who claim to be leaders. A real leader is JFK, Ronald Reagan and Franklin D Roosevelt!

Reading negative comments here from the foreigners, makaengun gyud kag lahi ragyud ang kultura sa mga puti ug mga pinoy noh? Makita gyud nimo nga ilaha rang kaugalingon gipang hunahuna. Hypocrites at its finest.

Just finished binge-watching this docu-series. This proves that not all who portrays good on the outside shows sympathy for the marginalized. And those who look like gangsters are far more better inside and truly has a heart for those who are helpless.. Not all the people who end up in jail are guilty, and even though those who are convicted deserves second chances. And that has been the driving force for sir Marco. Kudos to dirctor Michele Josue for this spirit lifting documentary. We hope that the government of cebu will bring back the smile and the music to these dancing inmates.

Just finished watching it, found myself laughing , crying and praying for those prisoners caught in the crossfire of dirty politics, drug addiction and a society becoming less and less sympathetic to the plight of poor and less fortunate people. God bless Marco Toral and his family. I hope his son a becomes a great lawyer to defend those prisoners with no proper representation and can’t afford to hire one.

Watch out for the last sentences of the documentary… it's gonna be a huge shock.

Please Netflix we need another season with the same jail lol.

I saw eposode 2 and it pissed me off. That Marco guy has no right carrying a gun around and picking up people like he is a police man or with a warrant. This is a classic example of the rich trumping over the poor in the Philippines. The main story of this documentary got lost as you watch it. It bacame a documentary of the families running the prison as if they paid for this documentary to show off their lives and how bad ass they are. SMFH

I watched all of the 5 episodes one time. It was sad but there's always hope inside the jail thru dancing. I hope one day Mr. Toral will be re appointed again.
